DESIGN SCHOOL INDIA a.k.a. DESI (MFA Thesis Brand Development)
I find DESI to be an appropriate name for a design school in India, since desi means "Indian" and it consists of the
first 4 letters of design. The logo is based on 2 main aspects on Indian culture. One, its religion and two, its rich languages.
The 8 petaled lotus is holy for Hindus and Buddhists, and it means openness to other cultures. The rounded forms reflect the
nature of many Indian language scripts.

DESIGN SCHOOL INDIA a.k.a. DESI (MFA Thesis: Brand Proposal Book)
This cover of the thesis for DESI has the letters spell out the full-name name of the school
as well as create an outline of the map of India.
POSTCARD PROJECT II
In this self-initiated project, I mailed my girlfriend postcards on a regular basis. These postcards travelled from
New York to Jaipur, India. The idea here is to use visual communication to touch someone's heart. And to also
learn to create something beautiful that you give away—literally, since many of the postcards got lost along the way.
CELEBRATING FREEDOM 12151791 (BookDesign)
This book, celebrates the launch of the Freedom Museum in Chicago. 12151791,
refers to the date—December 15, 1791,
when the Bill of Rights was ratified. We based the book design on the main installation in the museum, which consists of
letter-size metal plates with quotations on freedom die-cut through it. In the same spirit,
I decided to emphasize this
dimension of the plates, by using a dotted line throughout the book, with die-cuts appearing on the cover and the
section dividers.

STUDIO BLUE Website Content and Module Design)
We worked in a very collaborative manner in designing this site. I designed all of the content windows (modules) for the home,
project and case study pages. I also developed the content for the home and case studies pages—for instance, "5 to 9" is module
in the home page that features work done outside office hours; and FYI is a section that features interesting images on design
and typography from around the world.

SPICETELECOM (Website Design)
Spice is one of India's upcoming telecom service providers. The goal of this Pre-IPO site was to emphasize the 5 colors of the Spice brand.
While the site has a clean and modern feel, it reflects the energy of the target consumer--the young, trendy and globalized people of India.

BIEDERMEIER, THE ART OF SIMPLICITY (Typeface design)
Biedermeier was a movement of simplicity—of making design simple and elegant, devoid of ornamentation.
At Studio Blue we translated this core idea into the design of the book by creating a sans-serif (simplified)
version of the typeface Didot, which became like the furniture—stripped of ornament.
NEW YORK STORIES: BALLET (Design and Illustration)
A project for a class by Maira Kalman. The purpose of the project was to tell the story of a nursing home resident. At the end of the 3 months,
I used graphic design emphasize aspects that were common to Aaron and me.
This work is about both of our experiences with ballet. Aaron took ballet lessons and I used to photograph
ballet classes.
NEW YORK STORIES: ORGINS (Using Graphic design to tell a story)
A project for a class by Maira Kalman. The purpose of the project was to tell the story of a nursing home resident.
At the end of the 3 months, I used graphic design emphasize aspects that were common to Aaron and me.
This piece is about both our origins—where our family comes from, and all the cities we've lived in,
until we met in Manhattan.
CULTURE CLASH I: BROOKLYN MEET CHINATOWN (Juxtaposition Series)

LOLITA and THE CORPORATION (Book Cover Redesign/Concepts)
Lolita: Humbert Humbert and Dolores Haze are complete opposites of each other. While Lolita is fragile, nubile and coy, Humbert Humbert is masculine, strong
and determined. The cover
shows this contrast by using a heavy typeface for Vladimir Nabokov (who like Humbert hails from Russia). And in the same
"playfully perverse" nature of the book, Lolita's name on the cover
is constructed from pubic hair.
**The Corporation: Won the 2006 :Output Foundation Award (Germany/Netherlands)
INDIAN MOUNTAINEERING FOUNDATION (Posters)
As part of the 50th anniversary of the IMF, they are calling attention to the plight of the Himalaya, which are suffering from climate change. Reduction in snow levels, melting of
perennial glaciers and the effects to flora and fauna are some of the many concerns. Unlike most of us, the mountaineers of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation see the day to day
effects to the tallest wonder of the world—the Himalaya.

EXPERIMENTAL PHOTOGRAPHY (One-of-a-kind Photographic Prints)
Using Modern Materials and 19th Century Printing Techniques like Van Dyke. Palladium Printing and Gum Bi-Chromate

BLUE BIRD & CO. (rescued type)
These handmade wooden 1 foot tall letters have been rescued from a more than 50 year old business in Connaught Place, Delhi
TRANSISTOR DEVICES INC. (Annual Report—Editorial Design and Illustration)
TDI controls the supply of power to many core services and industries such as: internet servers, hospitals, manufacturers of
silicon devices such as flash cards etc. Instead of using images, I decided to use technical illustrations to indicate the seriousness
of the company. The typography is inspired by the language of circuitry; and the primary color used is ‘copper’, since it alludes
to the most fundamental component of power transmission—wires.

COCHS or Community Oriented Correctional Health Services (Logo and Identity System proposal)
COCHS is an organization that helps newly released inmates secure a health care provider, thereby providing a link between the correctional and societal
health care systems. The goal of the identity is to indicate the coming together of various organizations to provide quality health care to former inmates.
The openness of the mark is a metaphor for the newly gained freedom by the former-inmate.

WHITE & CASE LLP (Website Design)
White & Case, a law firm, wanted a few recruiting site that would stand out from the competition. Designing the website,
was a collaborative process—I worked with 2 other designers to come up with this solution. I developed the navigation, and
designed the secondary and tertiary landing pages and the video library (shown above). I also designed the icons used
in the videos.
POSTCARD PROJECT
In this self-initiated project, I mailed myself a postcard a day for about 9 months. I had a few constraints for the project—the postcards could not be bought, they had to be mailed everyday and always list my
address and the date. I don't claim these works to be solely mine. Someone designed the original postcard and the postal service also contributed with their stamps and other markings.
PLAZM MAGAZINE Issue #2 (Collage from Newsprint)
This issue of Plazm was about collective memory.
Using the metaphor
of news drowning out other news
and thus obscuring everything before, I used
the collage
to create the name of the magazine.

MAN>MANNEQUIN, MACHINE>MAN(Text, Photography and Design of Book Spreads)
These are spreads from a book I wrote, photographed and designed. Set in the near future,
this book is about how we humans are becoming more artificial and how our machines are becoming
more human... until one day, we become them and they, us.
