The Royal Textiles of Mewar

Edited by the renowned curator and writer on textiles, Rosemary Crill, The Royal Textiles of Mewar is a richly researched book with detailed images that take you onto a journey to the fabled land of Mewar and specifically, to Udaipur in southern part of the western state of Rajasthan, India.

The City Palace Museum, Udaipur, is home to a remarkable collection of textiles, including clothing, furnishings, animal trappings and ceremonial objects used at the court. These range from richly embroidered garments for both men and women, colourful tie-dyed turbans and elegant robes worn by members of the ruling family to huge elephant covers, decorative saddle-cloths and lavish floor-spreads. This book explores the full range of the collection and uncovers the roles the different textiles have played in the royal court of Mewar.
