The Story of two Visual Traditions

For Sangam, Delhi, we created a palm leaf scroll or Chitra Pothi also called tal-patra-chitra with Bijay Kumar Bariki in Raghurajpur, Odisha. The concept was to combine Indian and Australian visual languages. The Sangam lettering seen here is based on aboriginal art — which is full of concentric forms and forms that are very flowing. There is also a narrative we created through the tal patra circles, that tells the story of an Australian designer meeting an Indian artisan and how they try to work together. At the bottom is a video that shows how the palm leaf book unravels itself.
